Terms

Taking part, in plain terms.

Effective 3 October 2026

These terms cover what you can expect from us and what we need from you. By using this site, requesting cards, sending us a message, or contributing toward postage, you are agreeing to them.

What this is

Canada Love Notes is an unincorporated volunteer campaign based in New York State. It is not a company and it is not a registered charity. There is no legal entity behind it. It is run by people who wanted to say thank you to Canada and decided to organize it.

The campaign is nonpartisan. We do not speak for Canadians, for any government, or for any political party or organization.

The messages you send us

When you write a note through this site, the words stay yours. You are giving us permission to put them on a card, mail that card to Canada, and show the message publicly on this site or on social media so people can see what the campaign looks like.

We will not publish your name, your handle, your city, or anything else that identifies you without asking you first.

By sending a message you are confirming that you wrote it, that it is yours to give, and that it does not copy someone else's work.

We read everything before it goes out. We may decline to send or publish a message, or fix an obvious typo, but we will not rewrite what you meant to say. If we decline something you sent, you are welcome to send us another.

What not to send

Please do not send anything unlawful, threatening, harassing, hateful toward any group of people, defamatory about a real person, obscene, or written to impersonate someone else. Please do not use the campaign to advertise anything or to promote a candidate, a party, or a company.

Messages like that will not be mailed and will not be published.

Contributions

Contributions are handled entirely through Venmo. We never see or hold your card or bank details.

Money contributed to Canada Love Notes pays for postage and for printing the cards. That is what it is for. Nothing is taken as profit, and nobody is paid a salary or a fee out of it.

Because there is no legal entity and no tax exempt status behind this campaign, contributions are not tax deductible charitable donations. Please do not treat them as such, and please do not claim them as such.

A contribution is not a purchase and it does not entitle you to anything in return. We are not able to offer refunds, because the money goes straight into stamps and printing. If something has gone wrong, write to us anyway and we will do what we reasonably can.

Cards and the mail

We will do our best to print and mail every card we take on. We cannot control the postal services of two countries, so we cannot promise that any particular card will arrive, or when. We also cannot promise that a card will reach a specific person.

Our count of cards mailed reflects cards that have gone into the mail. It is not a count of cards delivered, and it is not audited.

Shirts

The shirt form is an expression of interest, not an order. Nothing is being sold and nothing is being charged. We will only make shirts if enough people want them. If that happens we will come back to you with real details and you can decide then.

The campaign artwork

You may print and share the campaign artwork unchanged, for noncommercial participation in the campaign. Please do not alter it, sell it, or use it to represent another organization or cause.

Everything else on this site, including the writing and the design, belongs to Canada Love Notes.

Other people's sites

This site links to Venmo, Instagram, and a number of news and government sources. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for them. Their terms and their privacy policies apply when you are there.

What we do not promise

This site is offered as it is. We have built it carefully, but we cannot promise it will always be available, free of errors, or free of interruption.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Canada Love Notes and the people running it are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of this site or your participation in the campaign. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Privacy

What we collect and what we do with it is set out in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

Changes

We may update these terms. If we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the updated version.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, and any dispute will be handled in the courts of New York State.
